Relationship between Gender and Literacy, Plaintiffs

Sex of the plaintiff and the plaintiff’s literacy are strongly correlated. Males are significantly more likely to be literate than females are. While the number of cases for which literacy was recorded in the prewar years is small, the correlation coefficient is still significant. Conducting this analysis for the war years yields identical results.
